Inspiring Players is the Name of the Game for Excalibur Soccer Head Coach
Meet an Excalibur Coach: Stuart Robertson
For Stuart Robertson, head coach of the Trent Excalibur men’s and women’s Soccer teams, coaching is a part of his family heritage. The Dundee, Scotland native says that he now follows in the footsteps of his father and grandfather who both coached and has used their legacy as inspiration over his ten years as a coach at Trent.
As a coach that comes from a long line of coaches that have positively influenced his own life, Mr. Robertson says that he knows the impact his role can have on the players he leads. For him, it is this influence on his player’s lives, on and off the field, that he enjoys the most about his role.
Coaching, for Mr. Robertson, is about more than leading a group of 26 people to success on the pitch. He believes that coaching is really about the life lessons that each of the players he coaches are able to take from their time on one of his teams. It is these lessons he says will help them succeed after their time at Trent, as well as provide them lessons to share with others in the years to come.
“Hopefully some of the students I coach will go on to coach and affect another 26 young people,” says Mr. Robertson.
Each year, Mr. Robertson says that he is incredibly proud of his players and their accomplishments academically and athletically. From their high graduation success rate and playoff success, there is a lot to be proud of. However, it is the personal growth of each of the players during their time at Trent that he gets the most excited about.
“I’m proud of my guys and girls, they create lifelong friendships,” says Mr. Robertson. “I push them to graduate and leave Trent an even better person than they came in.”
