Applications to Trent University up by 17.4% among Secondary School Students

Trent leads the province for percentage increase to applications for second year running

Trent University led the province for percentage increase to applications for the second year in a row with a 17.4 per cent increase in applications from secondary school students against a system-wide increase of 2.4 per cent according to figures from the Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC).

In addition to the increase in interest from high school students, Trent saw a year-over-year increase in applications of 18.6 per cent from first-year non-secondary students.

As of the application deadline, interest in both the Peterborough and Durham campuses was up both domestically and internationally.

“These numbers are a good sign of Trent’s growing reputation. They are founded on the hard work of our marketing, recruitment and admissions team, and the many faculty and staff who have contributed to our outreach efforts,” said Jackie Muldoon, provost and vice-president academic of Trent University. “We are especially pleased to see a large increase in the number of students who made Trent University their first choice. I think it’s clear that Trent’s flexible, individualized learning environment and unique program mix are capturing the attention of a wide range of students.”

“The figures we see at this time of the year are fluid and our focus is on encouraging students to visit campus for open house events and tours to get a feel for our exceptional environment for living and learning,” said Marilyn Burns, associate vice-president, Marketing & Recruitment. “Our two campuses have so much to offer students.”

June 1, 2017 is the OUAC deadline for students to make their choice for university.
