Electric City Hacks: First Hackathon Comes to Trent University
Hackathon to bring opportunities to students in tech
Useful phone apps, to games, to alarm clocks – just a few of the inventions created at hackathons in the past, and now students from across North America will play their hand at creating the next great software or hardware innovation at Electric City Hacks, the first hackathon to be hosted at Trent University.
From November 4 to 6, 2016, students in Trent University’s Computer Science program will host over 400 students from across North America to the Symons campus. A hackathon is an opportunity for students from all majors to work together in small teams and compete over a weekend to come up with a software or hardware invention.
“As a student that has attended hackathons in the past, we think hosting one here at Trent will be an amazing opportunity for students to learn and apply their knowledge in a competitive setting, network with huge tech companies, and create future job opportunities,” said Laura Mann, second-year Computer Science major, and one of the organizers of the event.
Electric City Hacks is sponsored by many companies, with some sending representatives to help participants, lead workshops, and create prize categories for participants to work towards.
Hackathons are free for students to attend, food and accommodation included. Learn more about Electric City Hacks, and how you can get involved in the weekend event.
