Dr. Craig Brunetti Appointed New Dean of Graduate Studies at Trent University
Trent University is pleased to announce that Dr. Craig Brunetti has been appointed as the dean of the School of Graduate Studies commencing July 1, 2016 for a five-year term.
“Professor Brunetti’s experience as a leading researcher and chair of the Biology department will be a perfect complement to his new role as dean of graduate studies here at Trent,” said Dr. Jackie Muldoon, provost and vice-president academic at Trent University. “Craig’s direction will help us ensure that graduate studies at Trent University continues to be recognized as a leader locally, nationally and internationally.”
As the dean of graduate studies, Prof. Brunetti will be responsible for the administration of graduate degree programs offered at Trent University, the admissions and registration of graduate students, as well as the management of funding, including teaching assistantships, scholarship, bursaries, fellowships, and other awards to graduate students. There are currently over 20 graduate programs offered at Trent University.
Professor Brunetti joined the Department of Biology at Trent University in 2003. He is a biologist whose research focusses on how viruses interact with their host in an effort to understand how viruses cause disease and to develop better ways to treat viral infections.
"I am honoured to be appointed the dean of graduate studies,” said Professor Brunetti. “I look forward to leading in the development of new research-oriented and professional-based graduate programs, as well as working with all stakeholders as we strengthen the existing graduate programs at Trent University.”
During his time at Trent, Prof. Brunetti has served as the undergraduate chair of the Biology department, as director of the Environmental & Life Sciences graduate program, and has served as the faculty representative on the Board of Governors in 2015-2016 and previously from 2009-2013. Prior to joining Trent, he was a research associate at Western University in the department of Microbiology and Immunology.
Speaking of Prof. Brunetti, the search committee said: “Prof. Brunetti clearly outlined his vision for a sustainable future for graduate studies at the University with areas of priority being identified as recruitment and marketing opportunities, new programming, and advocating for the graduate students. Prof. Brunetti understands the need for close collaboration between undergraduate and graduate programs.”
