Students Honoured at Annual Physics and Astronomy Award Ceremony
Student academic achievements celebrated
Students, faculty and staff gathered together October 14, 2015 in for the Physics and Astronomy awards, an annual celebration of the academic achievements of undergraduate students in the department.
A complete list of the 2014-15 awards and their recipients are as follows:
Ms. Emily Korfanty and Ms. Sylvia Lubyen have been awarded the J Lodge Physics Scholarship for the highest standing in Physics 1001H/1002H. Named in honour of the founding chair of the Physics Department, it is awarded to the student with the highest average in 1000 level Physics courses, and who is continuing in Physics, Chemical Physics, Computing Systems and Physics, or Mathematical Physics at Trent University. Ms. Korfanty and Ms. Lubyen were also awarded the Department of Physics and Astronomy Prize.
Mr. Jeet Trivedi has been awarded the Lodge Physics Scholarship for the highest average in 2000 level Physics courses. Mr. Trivedi also received the Breukelaar Prize in Laboratory Physics which was created in recognition of the many years of service of senior demonstrator John Breukelaar, and is awarded annually to the student displaying the highest academic standard in senior laboratory courses in Physics.
Mr. Steven Ufkes has been awarded the Lodge Physics Scholarship for the highest average in 3000 level Physics courses. Mr. Ufkes is a three time winner of the Lodge Scholarship.
Ms. Kelsey Chapman was awarded the Ronald G. Johnson Prize in Quantum Mechanics, a prize which was established by former students and colleagues of Dr. Johnson’s in recognition of the more than three decades of teaching in Physics. It is awarded annually to the student with the highest academic achievement in the fourth year Quantum Mechanics course.
Mr. Eamonn Corrigan is also recognized by the department for competing in the Canadian Association of Physicists (CAP) 2015 Lloyd G. Elliott University Prize Exam. The annual event sees 65 students from 17 universities compete and Mr. Corrigan was the top participant from Trent University. Mr. Corrigan is currently enrolled in the B.Ed. program at Queen’s University.
