Trent Takes the Next Step in Remote Learning
Creating greater learning opportunities through technology
Trent University Durham has recently installed new remote learning classroom technology in the largest classroom on campus, room 125. Equipped with three screens, video presentation capabilities, and table mics, this immersive style technology will connect students with lectures from the Peterborough and other university campuses, allowing for a greater accessibility of courses offered on the Durham campus.
“By utilizing this kind of technology we hope that we can provide students the opportunity to take a wider variety of programming and ultimately help them enrich their university experience and degrees by doing so,” noted Amber Ashton, supervisor of campus operations at Trent University Durham.
Thanks to the new technology, students in both Peterborough and Durham will be able to take courses offered at either campus. The technology works by presenting the lecturer on one screen, the classroom of the opposite location on another, and the final screen can be utilized to present lecture materials. Table mics are installed on the lecture benches for students’ voices to be shared in both settings.
Trent University Durham has previously utilized remote classroom technology, but this is the first three-screen technology offered in the campus’s largest classroom, ensuring this kind of technology is made accessible to a larger population of students on campus.
