Trent University has a long-standing reputation for being a leader in green initiatives.  As part of ongoing efforts to promote more environmentally friendly modes of transportation, Trent partnered with Wild Rock Outfitters and Peterborough Moves to host the 9th annual bike tune-up and barbeque on Thursday, May 14.

Cyclists were encouraged to bring their bikes to Lady Eaton College for a free tune-up, generously provided by Wild Rock Outfitters. A barbeque lunch was also available, with a portion of the proceeds going to charity.

Brianna Salmon, ambassador for Shifting Gears, explained “it is a movement that encourages people to walk, bike, take public transit, or carpool every year during the month of May.”  Until this year the campaign targeted workplaces, however it has recently expanded to become a community challenge.  Whether you are a student, employee, or member of the general public, Shifting Gears urges you to trade your car keys for a more Green initiative.

Associate Vice-President of Development, Richard Morgan, attends the event every year and is a strong supporter of eco-friendly alternatives. “Shifting Gears is the perfect program for Trent to participate in,” said Mr. Morgan, “It speaks to our values of sustainability, community participation, and alternative policy options.”
