From its humble beginnings in downtown Peterborough to where it is today, Trent University has been a major part of the Peterborough community for the past 50 years. The Peterborough Historical Society recognized this on March 31 at their Annual General Meeting at Princess Gardens where Trent was presented a 2015 Heritage Award.

The awards honour individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to promoting heritage preservation in Peterborough and the surrounding area. Winners are selected annually by a volunteer panel of independent judges from nominations received from the community.

Graham Hart served as Master of Ceremonies for the evening. Lee Hays, director of alumni affairs and Michael Eamon, principal of Traill College, accepted the J. Hampton Burnham Award on behalf of Trent University. The award was in recognition of Trent’s 50th Anniversary celebrations over the year that highlighted the half-century history of the university and the contribution it has made and continues to make to Peterborough.

“I was honoured to accept this award on behalf of Trent University and the 50th anniversary organizing committees,” said Lee Hays, director of alumni affairs. “Celebrating this milestone with as many community members as possible and highlighting the significant impact Trent University has had on the region was one of the main objectives of the planning committee.  We thank the Peterborough Historical Society for selecting Trent University’s 50th Anniversary Organizers for this award.”
