Indigenous Insights: Elders Gathering Pre-Conference

Trent University Alumni House, First Peoples House of Learning, Indigenous Studies and Indigenous Environmental Studies as well as Masters in Sustainability Studies invite Trent Indigenous Alumni Chapter and their friends and family to a celebration of Trent's 50th Anniversary. 

"Indigenous Insights" offers a variety of short presentations by Chapter alumni, faculty, students, instructors, Elders and Community partners.  Presenters include:  Isadore Toulouse (Alumni); the Unity Singers (alumni and staff); Shirley Williams (Alumni, Elder and Professor Emeritus) will launch not one, not two, but THREE new books;  David Newhouse (Chair of Indigenous Studies) will talk about his newest publication; Mehrangiz Monsef (alumni) will share the community initiative introducing Native and new-settler youth in Nogojowon; Mmmm, healthy snacks and lunch will be provided by Kim Lamothe, (alumni, Director of SOADI); Paula Sherman,(Alumni, Director of the PhD Indigenous Studies) and Shirley Williams will talk about their joint research and smash hit - Wisekejack; Cherylanne James, President of TUNA, announces alumni contest: "Name the TUNA Presidents and what year they served"; Dorothy Taylor (alumni) and Cathy Mitchell (community partner),share the work we've done together in the Sacred Water Circle; Students: Edward George; Shanese Steele; Cathy Pawis; Kristeen McTavish; Celine Vukson; Barbara Wall; Caleb Musgrave. Faculty: Don McCaskill, Michele Lacombe; Marrie Mumford; Skahendowaneh Swamp; Dan Longboat; Lynne Davis; Community partners: Lindy Garneau and Jen Patterson - "Learning, to work together", something of a theme for the past few years; Trent Aboriginal Culture Knowledge and Science, (TRACKS), Heathyr and Robyn Smith a joint initiative with the Indigenous Environmental Studies and Science program with community to create science/IK education for youth; Instructors: Heather Shpuniarsky; David King; Rhonda Paulsen;     All are welcome, no charge although donations are welcome, refreshments provided.
