New Trent Cafe Tantalizes Oshawa Campus Taste Buds

On September 4, 2014 students at the Trent Oshawa campus could smell something different in the air.  In fact it was something delicious.  With fired-up panini grills and steam tables, the Trent Café unveiled its new look, updated equipment and fresh take on food to a receptive student body hungry for variety, quality, longer hours and reasonable prices.  The Trent Café delivered big time with new options including pizza, soups, salads, sushi, all-day breakfasts and a variety of hot items for the 200-500 students served daily. So far, the reviews for this new social hub on campus are fantastic.

As with most things at Trent, students were top of mind when deciding on the new service provider. A committee including representatives from the Trent Oshawa Student Association (TOSA), staff and a consultant chose Mr. Raymond Lu and Chef Jimmy Zeng to operate the café. Both have extensive experience with well-known food chains.

“It is important to include students in this decision making process as they are the primary customers of the café,” said Kelly Patano, president of TOSA. “It is befitting for TOSA to represent Trent Oshawa students on committees which impact the student experience.”

Justin Fisher, director of student affairs at Trent Oshawa echoes the sentiment.  He says, “The administration listened and made sure we did what we could to make the café a great experience for the students.”
