More than 150 student delegates from around the world arrived at Trent University this week to participate in Junior Achievement of Canada’s Next Generation Leadership (NGL) Forum, hosted by the Peterborough, Lakeland, and Muskoka Junior Achievement office. The week-long forum aims to foster professional development and personal growth.
The annual NGL Forum helps students build their leadership, creativity, team work and business skills as they solve a real-life business challenge, in collaboration with their global peers. The Forum features keynote addresses from business leaders, including a representative from Toronto-based innovation centre MaRS Discovery District, and workshops led by faculty from Trent University’s Business Administration and Masters in Sustainability Studies programs.
“We are so pleased to welcome Junior Achievement students to Trent,” said Dr. Ray Dart, chair, Business Administration. “Trent’s interdisciplinary and hands-on approach learning will encourage the critical decision-making skills these students will need to succeed in their careers.”
Participating students have been selected and sponsored by Junior Achievement offices from around the globe and include two students from the local area.

The NGL Forum offers more than academic and career-focused sessions to its delegates. Students will spend Wednesday participating in a variety of Canadian experiences, such as traditional skills workshops, canoe trips on the Otonabee River led by The Land Canadian Adventures, and a “Trent Mudder” obstacle course around the Lady Eaton Drumlin. They will also visit the Lift Locks and take in the Peterborough Musicfest concert at Del Crary Park.
Trent University was announced as the host for the 2014 and 2015 Next Generation Leadership Forums last October after competing nationally for the opportunity.
