Trent University spirit was strong Thursday, November 14 at the Peterborough Memorial Centre as staff, faculty, students, alumni, family and friends cheered on the home team in the annual Trent Night at the Peterborough Petes. Wearing their Trent green and college scarves, and brandishing their foam Excalibur swords, a lively crowd encouraged the Petes as they faced off against the Owen Sound Attack.

Trent Night at the Peterborough Petes opened with an outstanding performance of O Canada, performed by members of the Trent International Student Association (TISA). Vice-president of External Relations and Advancement, Julie Davis, was joined by Lady Eaton College head, Dr. Michael Eamon and Dr. Melanie Buddle, head of Gzowski College, for the ceremonial puck drop at centre ice.

The University’s involvement didn’t end with the puck drop as representatives from Otonabee College, Champlain College, Gzowski College and Lady Eaton College raced against each other during the second intermission for Trent’s College Challenge trophy. Donning hockey equipment, competitors slid to centre, stacked pucks, tossed bouncy balls into a basket and slide their way back to start. With the cheers and encouragement from the stands, Otonabee’s two-year winning streak came to an end as Champlain College’s Mike Kos slid across the finish line to claim the title for his college.

Despite the spirit and enthusiasm from the crowd, and a valiant effort from the Petes, Owen Sound won the game with a final score of 6-1. Fingers are crossed for a win during next year’s Trent Night with the Petes, during the University’s 50th anniversary year.
