Peterborough Laker Mark Farthing Joins Excalibur Lacrosse Coaching Staff

The Trent Excalibur Men's Lacrosse team is pleased to announce the appointment of current Peterborough Laker Mark Farthing to the position of assistant coach for the 2013 season.

Farthing played collegiate lacrosse at Brock University, where he held the title of captain for his junior and senior years and helped lead the team to two national championships. Named MVP of the national championship final once, he was also awarded an honourable mention All Canadian in the LSM position in 2011. A former Peterborough Junior A Laker, Farthing is currently a member of the MSL’s Senior Lakers and was part of the Mann Cup winning Laker team in 2012. Drafted 52nd overall in the 2010 NLL entry draft to the Colorado Mammoth, he has also played the last two seasons in CLax with the Brampton Inferno.

“I am excited and honoured to be joining the coaching staff of the Trent lacrosse program in 2013. I can’t wait to get onto the field!" Farthing said about his newest role.

With the Trent Excalibur, he joins the coaching staff of Geoff McKinley, Mike Temple, and Josh Wasson, replacing 2012 assistant coach, Dan Carey, also a former member of the Lakers. Carey leaves behind the Excalibur to pursue a teaching opportunity at the Hill Academy in Vaughan, where he will also be coaching the boys junior varsity lacrosse team.

“Dan brought a wealth of playing and coaching experience to our program and made an immediate impact," said Trent head coach Geoff McKinley. "He had a great opportunity career-wise and we are very happy for him. Dan leaving opens up the opportunity to include Mark on our coaching staff. Mark brings an abundance of playing experience in CUFLA and box lacrosse. We feel he is a great addition and will have an easy transition to coaching."

Speaking of his time with the Excalibur, Carey said: “I really enjoyed my time at Trent. It was a great environment and great program. I wish the boys nothing but luck this year and in the future.”

Training camp for the Excalibur opens August 19, 2013 and the team will play their first exhibition game against Team Ontario U-19 team on August 28, 2013 at Justin Chiu Stadium. The upcoming season marks Trent's seventh season as a full member of Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association (CUFLA).
