Presenters include:
- Beth Whalen - Chairman of the Sex Trade Support Circle Sex Work Realities in Durham Region: This presentation will give you an overview of sex work in Durham Region with a primary focus on street level involvement. It will explore the stigma and discrimination associated with the trade and the resulting difficulty in accessing appropriate services.
- Megan Walker - Executive Director of the London Abused Women’s Centre An End to Sex Slavery – Stop the Demand Megan Walker will discuss how the Nordic Model (decriminalizing prostituted women while holding buyers criminally responsible for their choices) has had a positive impact on ending sex slavery.
- Bridget Perrier - Co-Founder/ First Nations Educator SEXTRADE101 Domestic Trafficking Bridget Perrier will be talking about how prostitution effects and places Canada’s First Nations women at risk. She will also share her personal experience as an exploited child from a First Nations perspective.
- Chris Walker – Durham Regional Police, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit Chris Walker will be speaking about what to be aware of/look out for, how traffickers operate and recruit, what charges may be laid, and community partnerships.
Following the speakers will be a discussion period and Q&A session.
