The Trent Athletics Centre was a hive of activity February 20-23, 2013 as the University played host to the top eight women’s volleyball teams from across the province at the 2013 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Women’s Volleyball Championships.

The dynamic three-day tournament, which consisted of some great volleyball action, culminated in the Humber Hawks being crowned OCAA Champions for the sixth consecutive year.

“After three days of exciting volleyball action, the Humber Hawks claimed their sixth title in a row with an impressive three set victory over the Nipissing Lakers. With that the Hawks head west for the CCAA Nationals in Alberta in the first week of March,” said Scott Gray, OCAA Convenor & Manager of Athletics at Sault College. “The host Trent University created a great experience for the student-athletes and all those involved; memories that will surely last a lifetime."

The Championship experience was bolstered by the nearly 1,500 fans that came out to watch and support their teams over the course of the event. Student athletes were also treated to a great swag bag full of donated goodies including a Boston Pizza voucher, World’s Finest Chocolates, a City of Peterborough pin, and a one-of-a-kind stone OCAA Championship coaster, plus much more.

The host team, the Trent Excalibur, unfortunately were eliminated from Championship play on day two following a defeat at the hands of the Cambrian Golden Shield, who went on to claim bronze at the tournament. On day one the Excalibur were unfortunate enough to meet the dominant Humber Hawks win their first match-up, and were defeated in three straight sets.
