Trent University’s reputation for great commitment to sustainability and the environment, along with cooperation in enterprise from the local to the global levels is further exemplified in a new agreement signed with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA).

Dr. Steven E. Franklin, Trent University president and vice-chancellor, along with Dr. Neil Emery, vice-president Research & International, signed the agreement in Ottawa in November 2012, with Audia Barnett, IICA’s Canadian representative.

“Trent University shares common values with IICA in the areas of sustainable agriculture, supporting economic development in poor countries, and environmental protection. We look forward to a long and productive relationship,” said Dr. Emery. “IICA is a strong enabling organization helping to link Trent to agricultural partners in several Caribbean, Central and South American countries. We have an exciting project in the genetics area that already has potential partners in five countries identified by IICA.”

The signing of the letter of agreement between the two parties represents a mutual goal to collaborate on internships, exchanges, and some joint projects, including a project-in-progress involving small ruminants.
