On Wednesday May 16, members of the Trent University community, including faculty, students, administration, board and alumni, gathered at the first-ever Trent Day at Queen’s Park reception in a committee room in the main legislative building at Queen’s Park.

The reception marked the completion of a series of alignment meetings held throughout the day between Trent and government and opposition members, plus representatives of the Premier’s Office and the Office of the Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities. Background information was presented on Trent-specific issues including the Trent development plan, capital funding, deferred maintenance, graduate expansion and provincially-funded research.
Special guest and Trent alumnus Linwood Barclay attended the reception and offered words of praise for the University and how his Trent experience contributed to his successful career.
Dr. Maggie Xenopoulos, associate professor in the Department of Biology at Trent was on hand to provide background information to officials on the importance of research at Trent University to the province of Ontario. Prof. Xenopoulos expressed appreciation to the province for funding and support received in many research areas at Trent.
Also attending were Trent students Dane Shumack and Charissa Weir, both of whom are recipients of Trent University scholarships.
