As our country approaches its 150th anniversary, Trent University faculty members and students are inviting Canadians to join in an unprecedented online conversation about Canada. The Canadian Difference Project, a new initiative of Trent University’s Canadian Studies Department with the philanthropic leadership of Ontario-based executives William A. Macdonald and William R.K. Innes, will be a digital conversation about who we are as a nation.
The vision for the project is a joint effort between Dr. Christopher Dummitt, chair of Canadian Studies at Trent University, Macdonald and Innes, in consultation with Trent's founding president and Canadian Studies scholar Thomas H.B. Symons. Macdonald and Innes have pledged to raise $600,000 to support the project, which has yet to be named and is set to begin in the fall of 2015.
The conversation has started with an essay series in the Globe and Mail written by MacDonald, read his pieces here:
- To be a global role model, Canada must realize what sets it apart
- How Canada’s eight leaders of special vision guided the way
- Canada’s major challenges as it finds its way into the future
- A new role for Canada and the U.S. in a world of persistent menace
- Overcoming Islamophobia: Fear is never the best basis for action
- Time to reconsider the nature of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness
