Trent-Fleming nursing is a great program with great professors. Everyone is very approachable and down to earth. I like that the faculty is personally invested in your education and success. I tell everyone I know that wants to do nursing, to come here.”

This is what Kelechi Osahor, a nursing student gearing up for her fourth year of studies, had to say about her experience with the Trent-Fleming School of Nursing.

“This program feels more like a unit, teachers know your name, you have a personal connection rather than feeling like a number, which has really helped me succeed.”

This success that Ms. Osahor speaks of is largely due to her enthusiasm and engagement with the program. Not only did she participate in a community placement abroad in Honduras, but she is writing a thesis this year while also taking the lead on starting a new group on campus to create a nursing student buddy program that pairs upper year students with first year incoming students.

The experiences that Ms. Osahor had the chance to take advantage of are a large reason she’s so passionate about the Trent/Fleming nursing program. She recognizes having the opportunity to work with Dr. Kirsten Woodend, dean of the Trent/Fleming School of Nursing and president of the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) as a highlight of her placement. “I was able to work closely with Dr. Woodend during my placement in Honduras. I didn’t think I would get a chance to work with her but I was with her throughout the whole trip and she is amazing. Here is a woman that has accomplished so much in her life and she is so down to earth.”

When asked if she had any words of wisdom for future nursing students, Ms. Osahor said, “If there’s one thing I would say, its make connections. Things get so crazy so fast, it’s easy to get lost in it all. Make connections, get to know your professors and take advantage of all the resources available to you!”
