The creation of the Trent Centre for Aging and Society, a $1.65 million grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) to become a leader in training the next generation of environmental professionals in Canada, and numerous projects from Trent’s DNA building. These are just a few of the many research projects and collaborations that Dr. Neil Emery, vice president, Research and International, and professor of Biology at Trent University spoke to in a recent speech to the Peterborough Rotary Club.

“It was a pleasure being able to speak at Rotary,” said Professor Emery. “After first hearing about many of the great things Rotary is doing in the community and abroad, I had a great platform to express how Trent is reaching out through research activities and impacting society and the economy of the Greater Peterborough area.”

Speaking to the group of local Rotarians, Prof. Emery highlighted the impact Trent has on the local community through the University’s shift to applied research rather than discovery research. He provided numerous examples of how various research centres at Trent are working in both the local community and nationally.
