Seasoned Spoon Hosts Student Art Exhibition
April 4, 2007
The Seasoned Spoon was host to the fourth annual "The Spirit Within" Student Art Exhibition from April 2 – 5. Organized by the Trent Religious Affairs Committee, the exhibition features four artistic mediums. "We have categories for sculpture, drawing/painting, poetry, and photography," explained event coordinator David French, Spiritual Affairs Coordinator for Trent University. "Students are asked to create a piece using one of these media that best embodies the theme of ‘The Spirit Within’ to them personally."
While the objective of the exhibition was to provide students with an opportunity to present their work to the Trent community, the art show also contained an element of competition. "Viewers were encouraged to fill out a ballot for what they feel is the best piece of each category," said Mr. French. "Winners for each category, and for best overall, will receive $100, donated by the TCSA and four of the colleges."
Previous student art shows have taken place at Otonabee College, however Mr. French expressed the hope of establishing a year-round continual art presence at the Seasoned Spoon. "It’s a great locale for art. There’s a lot of traffic, and the people there tend to be very respectful of the pieces on display" said Mr. French.back
