Author, Poet, and Newspaper Essayist, B.W. Powe, to Deliver Public Talks during Week of March 5

In conjunction with Champlain College, the Bata Library is pleased to announce its first writer-in-residence, B.W. Powe, an author and professor of English at York University. Mr. Powe will be staying at Trent University from March 5 to 9, during which time he will deliver several public lectures.

An intelligent and passionate voice, Mr. Powe is a writer of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry, and is a frequent essay contributor to The Globe and Mail. In December, Mr. Powe launched the third edition of Towards a Canada of Light, a reflection on Canada's hope and possibility in a time of terrorism and turmoil, which was published simultaneously in French as Vers un Pays-Lumière. He is currently completing a book on Pierre Trudeau entitled Mystic Trudeau. His other works include The Unsaid Passing, a collection of poetry, the novel Outage, and Solitary Outlaw, a study of modern thinkers. These, along with a number of other works, are on reserve at Trent’s Bata Library.

Since 1995, Mr. Powe has been teaching in the English Department at York University, where he is also a member of the Graduate School of Film Stud ies in the Fine Arts Department. He is a fellow of the McLuhan Centre at the University of Toronto and an honorary member of the High Table at Massey College.

During his week in residence at Trent University, Mr. Powe will offer the following public events:
