Trent Summer Job and Volunteer Fair a Success
February 2, 2007

Pronounced a success by students, recruiters and staff alike, the 2007 Summer Job and Volunteer Fair, organized by Trent’s Career Centre, was held on Wednesday, January 31 in Gzowski College.

Recruiters in attendance applauded the event, saying that it was well organized with lots of help available. Several first time exhibitors were impressed with the number of students looking for work and said they will come back again in following years. Exhibitors who have been to the fair before exclaimed that they always get a good turnout at Trent and love to hire Trent students.

As for the students, many came ready to land that summer job on the spot and some got their wish as they were interviewed at the fair or booked for interviews at a later date.

Approximately 1,000 students attended the annual Summer Job and Volunteer Fair and a total of 34 potential employers were on site, including:

  • Volunteer agencies such as: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peterborough; Canadian Red Cross; Community Living Peterborough; and the New Canadians Centre Peterborough.
  • Ten summer camps, including: Camp Island Lake; Childhood Cancer Support Centre; Camp Wahanowin; and CNIB Lake Joseph Centre.
  • Local, regional and national businesses, such as: BOATsmart! Canada; Boston Pizza; Business Advisory Centre; Kawartha Golf and Country Club; Northern Tier, BSA; Parks Canada Agency, Trent-Severn Waterway; University First Class Painters; and Winners / HomeSense.
