Former Canadian Ambassador to Iran and Kuwait to Deliver Lecture at Trent University

Terry Colfer to Discuss Middle Eastern Dynamics on March 8

Trent University is pleased to be hosting a free, public talk by Terry Colfer, former Ambassador to Kuwait and the Islamic Republic of Iran, on Wednesday, March 8 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Senior Common Room of Lady Eaton College on the main campus.
During his talk, entitled "The View from Tehran: Middle East Perspectives from a Canadian Ambassador", Mr. Colfer will speak about his career in the Foreign Service and the 25 years he spent working abroad, focusing on his time spent in Kuwait and Iran and his perspective on Middle Eastern dynamics today.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for the Trent community to benefit from the insight of a senior career diplomat, especially at this time of extreme turbulence in the Middle East," says Professor Marion Boulby, who became acquainted with Mr. Colfer during a recent Canadian election observation mission in Palestine.
Born in London, UK, Mr. Colfer was raised in Dorval, Quebec. In 1969 he accepted a position in the Foreign Service after many years spent in the military. During his diplomatic career, Mr. Colfer was posted primarily as a Trade Commissioner in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Australia, and the United States. In his final appointments overseas, Mr. Colfer held the positions of Canadian Ambassador in Kuwait, followed by an appointment as Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran. Since retiring in 2003, Mr. Colfer has maintained his geopolitical interests through participating on various lecture circuits and through acting as an international election observer in countries such as Palestine and Kyrgyzstan.
Mr. Colfer's visit to Trent is sponsored by the Department of History, Lady Eaton College, Trent International Program, and the Student Association for International Development. The talk is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
