Alumnus heads Nobel-winning agency

Dr. James Orbinski, International President of the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize-winning Doctors Without Borders, is scheduled to speak at the Trent University Alumni National Capital Chapter Dinner Series on Nov. 14 at the Capital Club Delta, Ottawa.

Dr. Orbinski, a graduate of Psychology at Trent, is one of the Canadian founders of the organization founded by a group of French doctors in Paris in 1971 and officially called Medecins Sans Frontieres. During his Trent years - 1980-1984 - he was also a Don at Traill College. He provided a very positive testimonial about his Trent educational experience for the current version of the student recruitment publication.

"I wanted a real education - one that disciplined my mind, taught me first how to approach problems and then how to choose the right tools to solve them. Trent's commitment to small group learning, its vital collegiate structure, and its personal touch between faculty and students, were its core strengths that gave me a real education. They are even stronger today. Most importantly, the passion for learning that was inspired and nurtured at Trent remains with me, and is my daily companion in defining and managing the medical, humanitarian and political challenges I face in my current position. Trent was a good choice then, and an even better one today."
