represents spirit of Trent

Gordon Watson, who began his studies at Trent at age 58 after retiring from the Public Service of Canada, and graduated with an MA in anthropology in 1981, has been awarded the 1998 Spirit of Trent Award. It is presented by the Alumni Association to a deserving alumnus/a who had made a difference though a contribution to the university, the alumni or the community. The presentation was made at a dinner Nov. 21.

Mr. Watson spent 30 years amassing a collection of ancient Native groundstone tools, pottery shards and arrowheads while documenting 8,000 year of Native history in Eastern Ontario. He recently donated his collection of more than 20,000 artifacts from 38 sites to the Museum of Civilization in Ottawa.
