Aboriginal Education Council's new chairs

Marian Larkman, an Elder in the Métis community and a member of the Métis Nation of Ontario, and Peter Kulchyski, Chair of the Department of Native Studies, have been named co-chairs of the Aboriginal Education Council.

Larkman has been active in education and aboriginal issues and a member of the Aboriginal Education Council at Trent for several years. She will serve in the role of Community Co-Chair.

Peter Kulchyski represents the University on the Council in his role as University Co-Chair. Through his efforts to establish the council, the Department of Native Studies has secured funding for a variety of programs.

The Aboriginal Education Council is a committee which represents the interests of Native Education at each University or College in Ontario which is the recipient of funding from the MET/Aboriginal Education and Training Strategy. This Council ensures the direct involvement of the Aboriginal community in delivering programs which it identifies as being needed in the community.
