NSERC Strategic Grants
The following are the targeted research areas for 1999-2000. Biotechnologies, Energy Efficiency technologies, Environmental technologies, Manufacturing and Processing Technologies, Materials technologies. The internal deadline for receipt of applications is April 9.

New Deadline for SSHRC Strategic Grants
The deadline for letters of intent for the three new strategic grants has been moved. The grants will support interdisciplinary research teams working in partnership with policy-makers and other potential users of research: (i) Exploring social cohesion in a globalizing era; (ii) Challenges and opportunities of a knowledge-based economy; and (iii) Society culture and the health of Canadians. The deadline for letters of intent is now April 1.

SSHRC Community-University Research Alliance (CURA)
The purpose of this program is to create special joint university-community alliances that, foster innovative research, training and the advancement of knowledge in areas of importance for the social, cultural or economic development of communities. The program will fund up to 8 CURAs in the first year for up to $200,000 per year for three years. Deadline for a letter of intent is April 1.

Edith Addyman Research Fund
The Edith Addyman Research Fund supports research into local government in Peterborough County with an emphasis on contemporary issues at the municipal and county levels. The competition is open to faculty, students and staff. Deadline is April 30.

Public Lending Right (PLR) Commission
The PLR, established in 1986 is a program of payments to Canadian authors for their eligible books catalogued in libraries across Canada. Payments are determined by sampling the holdings of a representative number of libraries, the more libraries in which an eligible title is found, the larger the PLR payment.
