Alumnus designs city's millennium logo

Pye's winning design was unveiled January 21 on Peterborough's 149th birthday. The Celebration 2000 Committee noted that the design captures the spirit of celebration and emphasizes the Town Clock as a landmark and symbol of Peterborough's history. Its blue colour is taken from the shield on Peterborough's official crest (representing the significance of the Otonabee River to Peterborough) and the red from Canada's flag to recognize the community's support for the national millennium celebration and to complement the essence of the city's milestone.

Public submissions were invited last September for a logo design to be used in the year 2000 during the city's millennium and sesquicentennial celebrations. A $500 prize was offered for best design, with the support of corporate sponsor Portage Place.

The logo will be used on souvenir merchandise, promotional materials, banners and event signs.

Pye, who is also a graduate of the Ontario College of Art in Industrial Design, works in exhibit and graphic design.
