Leading up to Earth Day we’ve been highlighting innovative research focused on solving environmental issues we face today and cutting-edge programs that are educating the world’s future environmental leaders.
Trent’s green efforts continue to impress:
- This past year, Trent University's Dr. Ian Power was selected as the first-ever Canada research chair in Environmental Geoscience. He’s working to create practical and innovative applications for reducing greenhouse gas emissions with the help of Trent students.
- It’s official – Trent University is one of the world’s top green universities, securing a place among the top 100 environmental university campuses worldwide, and the top 10 in Canada, according to the recently released UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2017. Ranked 73rd greenest campus in the world, and #7 in Canada, Trent also ranked #30 in the waste management section and #22 in the Education section of the rankings globally
- Nationally, regionally and internationally, Trent is making headlines. A sampling of environmental expertise in the news includes:
- Understanding why 12 right whales died in Canadian waters (Toronto Star)
- How ducks keep their feet from freezing in cold water (CBC)
- The benefits of forest-bathing (Globe and Mail)
- Saving the Michipicoten caribou (National Post)
- The Trent School of the Environment received a transformational $1.4 million gift in support of the prestigious school – empowering Trent students to put knowledge into action to address the world's most pressing environmental issues.
- In 2015 Trent entered into an Energy Performance Contract (EPC) partnership with engineering firm, Ameresco Canada, and have started the process to renew and upgrade campus infrastructure through a campus renewal partnership.
- Canada’s premier cleantech destination is coming to Trent. Cleantech Commons, the green technology research and innovation park which will host a cluster of companies and start-up enterprises in the fields of clean technology, agro-biotechnology, water treatment and advanced materials.
