Trent University Durham GTA to Welcome Largest Class of New Students
Nearly 500 new students to participate in academic sessions and interactive activities as part of 2017 Trent Durham Orientation
Trent University Durham GTA will come alive with activity and excitement next week as the campus welcomes nearly 500 new students – the largest incoming class to date in the institution’s 40 plus year history in the Durham Region – for Orientation Week 2017.
Starting Saturday, September 2 and running through Saturday, September 9, the University will host a week of programming in partnership with the Trent Durham Student Association (TDSA). Orientation Week is geared towards assisting new students’ transition into university life by acquainting them with student supports and services, preparing them for student success with academic workshops and guest lectures, ensuring they are able to fully engage with faculty and staff, and giving them the opportunity to meet and get to know their fellow classmates.
“Trent University Durham’s Orientation Week is designed to ensure that each incoming student develops friendships with their peers, connects with the diverse clubs, intramural, and leadership programming on the campus, and learns the skills needed to succeed at university,” says Jenifer Richardson, manager of Student Affairs at Trent University Durham GTA. “This year, we’ve extended our orientation activities to include a full week of events where students will have many opportunities to forge friendships, connect with the campus community, and make lasting memories.”
Students who participate in Orientation Week will connect with their peers, upper year students, faculty and staff to discover all that Trent Durham has to offer. They will also receive information on academic success, library services, mentoring, and student experience to help build their confidence as they enter into the academic year.
“We are very excited to welcome incoming students for the 2017-2018 academic year. This year’s orientation will be bigger and better than ever,” remarked Katie Cassin, vice-president of Campus Life with the TDSA. “We have an entire week planned with activities for new and returning students. We hope this week will encourage students to connect, engage and become involved with our campus during their time at Trent Durham.”
Helping to make Orientation Week an outstanding experience for new students, over 100 senior students, faculty and staff dedicate their time to coordinate and run the various dynamic events.
