Senior VP of CARE Canada to Deliver Talk at Trent University on March 17

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Nancy Gordon to Discuss Experiences being Involved in Major Crises around the World over the Past 12 Years

Wednesday, March 15, 2006, Peterborough

Trent University is pleased to be hosting a free, public talk by Nancy Gordon, Senior Vice-President of CARE Canada, a humanitarian organization fighting global poverty, on Friday, March 17 at 2:00 p.m. in the Senior Common Room of Lady Eaton College on the Symons Campus.

During her talk, Ms. Gordon will reflect on her career with CARE Canada, address what working for an NGO is really like both in Canada and in developing countries, and she will share her experiences being involved in major crises around the world over the past 12 years, including: the Rwandan Genocide, the Bosnian War, the Kosovar Conflict and Iraq crises, the HIV/AIDS pandemic, and the plight of victims of forgotten disasters in Angola and famines in southern Africa.

After studying Political Studies and History at Queen's University, Ms. Gordon began her career as a Foreign Service Officer in the Department of External Affairs with the Canadian government in 1963. Ms. Gordon became involved in CARE Canada when she accepted the position of Communications Director in 1993, at the height of the Somali crisis. Since joining CARE Canada, she has been largely responsible for the development of the organization's public profile as Canada's leading independent overseas development NGO. In 2002 Ms. Gordon became CARE Canada's Senior Vice-President with special responsibilities for communication and advocacy.

Ms. Gordon's talk is free and all are welcome to attend.
