Trent International Program Welcomes New Students

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Orientation Weekend at Camp Kawartha

Thursday, September 1, 2005

(Peterborough) The Trent International Program (TIP) will welcome 110 new students to Trent University this weekend. The TIP Camp orientation weekend will be held at Camp Kawartha, north of Peterborough.

During the weekend, the students will have the opportunity to swim and canoe. The new students will also participate in information sessions on Trent University's academic system as well as the community of Peterborough.

"We give them an utterly Canadian cottage experience where they will make friends with other Canadian and international students. Those friendships are key to their survival and success at Trent," says Dr. Michael Allcott, director of TIP.

In total, there are more than 500 international students from more than 90 different countries who attend Trent.

Media are invited to attend the TIP Camp between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 4 or between 3 and 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 5. To reach Camp Kawartha, travel north on Water Street/County Road 29 (formerly called Hwy 28) through Lakefield. Continue north on Hwy 28 past Lakefield for about five kilometres. Turn right at Birchview Road. The camp is seven kilometres on the left (indicated by a large sign for Camp Kawartha).
