Trent's School of Education and Professional Learning to Host Unique Literacy Event
Local schoolchildren to attend Children's Literature Storefront
The Children's Literature Storefront event will take place on January 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Peter Gzowski College on Argyle Street.
Organized by primary and junior teacher candidates as part of a Language Arts course assignment, the event has been scheduled to complement National Family Literacy Day on January 27. Grade one, two and three students from Queen Elizabeth Public School, Queen Mary Public School, Otonabee Valley Public School, and Curve Lake First Nations, will be attending.
The day's activities will include a dramatic performance of the book The Paper Bag Princess at 1:15 p.m., followed by hands-on activities for the children at 1:40 p.m. at each of ten different stations or "storefronts." Each activity is intended to promote literacy in an exciting and interactive environment. Activities include an Exploration of Space, Interactive Technology: A Television Studio, Building Emotional Intelligence and Character, Celebrating Culture, Camping and Kids, and much more.
Media are welcome and encouraged to attend this event, which is sure to offer great photo opportunities.
