FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Trent University Students to Participate in Drug Awareness Activities

Addiction counsellors, Peterborough-Lakefield Police, and health promoters take part

Trent University students will have an opportunity to get information about drugs and alcohol and learning about warning signs for their health and well-being at a Drug Awareness Week display to be held at Wenjack Theatre foyer between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. today.

Addiction counsellors, the Peterborough-Lakefield police, and local health promoters will talk with students, who can take part in interactive activities to gain an awareness of the risks of drugs and alcohol. Students will have the opportunity to calculate their blood alcohol level, take the "Party I.Q.," and try "fatal vision goggles" which replicate the experience of being in an impaired state. Information will be distributed on site.

The event is being organized by Trent University's new health educator, Janet Schmidt, whose new position focuses on all avenues of student health. Today's presentation is one in a series of sessions and events on health, safety and prevention.

Wenjack Theatre is located on the east bank of the campus just inside the entrance to Otonabee College.
