Virtual regatta on the Web

The images that graduate student and Audio Visual Services employee Andrew Epplett videotaped of the Head of the Trent Oct. 4 were uploaded as a series of stills onto the Trent Web site as the day progressed. One loyal, cheering group of alumni didn't miss a thing as they hooked up to the Internet in an Edmonton pub! The images changed every three minutes and were no more than an hour old. Trent Web developer Michael Young captured the images from the videotape with the video frame-grabber equipment Trent uses to create student identity cards. Sherry Booth of Trent's development office proposed the "virtual" regatta after seeing similar "live" updates on a Web site of progress at an American university construction site. Trent's novice eight men's and women's teams placed second and third respectively and the heavy double women's, third in university races.
