Sizzling Start for United Way Campaign
A
group of celebrity chefs served up hot dogs, veggie dogs and drinks on
Tuesday, October 1, to kick off this year's campus United Way campaign.
From 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. students, staff and faculty purchased the barbequed
fare. Celebrities donned United Way aprons and included Peterborough Mayor
Sylvia Sutherland, United Way Executive Director Len Lifchus, United Way
2002 Campaign Chairs Sophie Cousins-Mathewson and Stan Mathewson, Trent
President Bonnie Patterson and several other well-known people from the
Trent community.
The goal of this year's campaign is $52,000 and enthusiasm is running
high. Co-chairing the Trent campaign are Eric Helleiner and Rod MacDonald,
and both men were pleased with the success of the first official campaign
event.
Draws begin this week, as well, for staff, faculty or retirees who have
returned their United Way pledge forms. There are many prizes this year,
including a grand prize of a weekend for two at the Irwin Inn on Stony
Lake.
