Black Tie & Bikenstock – A Pre-Event Diary

Hmmmm, what's a girl to wear?

I'm all set to go to the Black Tie & Birkenstock gala on Friday, October 15, but I'm having a darn hard time deciding what to wear! I don't have any haute coutere outfits in the closet (sadly lots had to go after the baby was born – my hips and boobs just aren't the same – and to be honest, I never had those dresses in my closet in the first place) and I don't have time to sew a thing.

Hey! Way in the back of the closet, I still have my formal dresses from my years at Trent. I should give them a shot! With only a couple weeks to go before the big day, I'm thankful that I've saved these and not donated them to the St. Vincent de Paul.

Oh, man, would you look at that! They still fit!! Geeze, Master of Ceremonies Paul Wilson is going to have a good chuckle at THIS dress!

Now, about the shoes, what's in my closet these days? I have a decent pair of black strappy heels (no, too uncomfortable); I have some green satin pumps (a wedding left-over; I'm getting closer); oh ya! There they are! The good ol' Doc Martens that have looked after my feet for a while now. They're perfect!

This is the PERFECT outfit for the "fun formal" that the gala is going to be! I know that Rod Cumming is wearing a suit with Teevas; Tony Storey is wearing his buck-skin suede fringed jacket from 1971 and all sorts of folks are keeping their Birks out of the "summer shoe box" for a few weeks longer. This is going to be GREAT!! And if some one doesn't have Birks, they could win a pair as a door prize. Who couldn't use a free pair of Birks? Maybe the other door prize, a ticket for the Peter Gzowski Gala on Saturday, October 16 in Peterborough (a $125 value!) will encourage people.

But, with only a little longer to buy tickets (they HAVE to be purchased ASAP so the VOLUNTEER committee can let the caterer know), I sure hope people don't get put off by the name "formal" and just come for a darn good time, no matter what they have in the closet.

Well, off I go now to try and match a pair of earrings with this outfit. See you all on October 15!
