The sporting life…
Bill Byrick is the new Athletics Director at Trent

Bill Byrick has joined the Trent University community as the new Athletics Director.

Mr. Byrick is well known in the Peterborough community for his work as executive director of the Canadian Canoe Museum. In his role at Trent University, he will be responsible for the operation of all athletic and recreational programs and facilities, including the varsity and intramural programs, program development initiatives, and community partnerships and use of facilities.

Prior to his work with the Canadian Canoe Museum, Mr. Byrick was manager of Discovery Harbour in Penetanguishene and manager of Sainte-Marie among the Hurons in Midland. His cumulative museum experience spans a period of 25 years, preceded by Parks and Recreation work for the cities of Sarnia and London.

Mr. Byrick has been the recipient of several distinguished awards including the 2002 Charles Kearns Memorial Award from the City of Peterborough, the 1999 Peterborough Historical Society’s Heritage Award, the 1996 Amethyst Award for Outstanding Service in the Ontario Public Service, the 1995 Huronia Heritage Award and the 1988 Outstanding Service Award for Sports Administration in the Town of Midland. Mr. Byrick has also been a member of numerous committees and boards.

"My family has been involved at Trent for some time. I have rowed at the Head of the Trent for more years than I can remember and I am really looking forward to building upon the terrific foundation that Paul and the staff have built," said Mr. Byrick, who was able to work alongside retiring Athletics Director Paul (P.S.B.) Wilson during the month of August.

Paul had served as the Athletics Director at Trent from 1966 until 2002 and had a substantial impact on the lives of many students and staff.
