"Shorts with a Twist: 20th-Century Irish Short Stories," to be led by Finn Gallagher, Professor Emeritus, will run from May 17 to June 21 on Wednesday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon.

"Shorts with a Twist" will explore the flourishing of the short-story form from Ireland in the 20th-Century through readings and group discussions. All those registered in the course will join Professor Gallagher to explore the stories of such authors as Maeve Binchy, Maeve Brennan, Hugh Leonard, Brian Moore, Edna O'Brien, Liam O'Flaherty, Frank O'Connor, Sean O'Faolain, and William Trevor.

Professor Gallagher, who is associated with Trent's Department of English, is an expert in Irish literature. He has also lectured internationally on George Bernard Shaw, edited the book Women in Irish Legend, Life and Literature, and has contributed numerous book-reviews to Canadian, American, and Irish publications.

Similar courses examining the Irish short story and led by Professor Gallagher have been very popular and well-received in the past. For instance, one participant called the course "tremendous and stimulating" while Debbie Stone, who registered in the course on Irish short stories in both the Fall of 2002 and in 2003 said, "I've been exposed to authors I'd never encountered and discovered more stories by authors I knew. Finn is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic; it can't help but be contagious."

With such positive past reviews, this year's offering of "Shorts with a Twist" will be sure to fill up fast. Don't miss your chance to explore the Irish short story with Finn Gallagher.
