Trent Chancellor's Vision Comes to Life in Photography Exhibit

Roberta BondarA special exhibition featuring photography by Dr. Roberta Bondar, Chancellor of Trent University, is currently on display at the Peterborough Centennial Museum and Archives.

The exhibition, Roberta Bondar – Passionate Vision: Intimate Portraits of Canada's National Parks, displays Dr. Bondar's photography of Canada's national parks – a record of two years of travel across the country by plane, helicopter, boat and snowshoe.

On loan from the Canadian Museum of Nature, the exhibition began November 6, 2005 and will run until January 15, 2006.

It is thematically organized, based on the photographs' visual qualities rather than on a geographic or political basis – moving beyond traditional views of the Canadian landscape to give visitors a chance to see the country in a new way.

"Seen from space, our planet is very beautiful, and part of that beauty lies in the knowledge that life is so fragile – we are part of a thin layer of vitality on the vast bulk of the Earth. It is that precious life that I wanted to record, at this moment, at the beginning of a new millennium. I believe our national parks symbolize all that we as Canadians hold dear in our environment, and the photographs are my personal tribute to these special places, intimate and grand, lonely and familiar. They are also an invitation to all who see them, to celebrate, enjoy and help preserve our magnificent natural heritage," Dr. Bondar has said.

The Peterborough Centennial Museum and Archives is located on top of Armour Hill on Museum Drive, Hunter Street East in Peterborough. Admission is by donation. The museum is open weekdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends and holidays noon to 5 p.m. For more information, please call 705-743-5180 or visit www.pcma.ca
