Trent Alumna is 2005 CMA Valedictorian

Jaime McKennaTrent alumna Jaime McKenna is making waves in the business world.

The 26-year-old director of finance at Bell Canada's Enterprise division was the valedictorian at the October 22, 2005 Certified Management Accountant (CMA) convocation ceremony in Toronto.

Mrs. McKenna was chosen from a graduating class of 540 new CMAs for the valedictorian honour.

In her speech, Mrs. McKenna urged her fellow CMAs to be agents of change. Managing and directing change are fundamental to the necessary process of continuous improvement, she said.

"Face your future endeavours with courage, and continue to drive change by challenging the status quo," Ms. McKenna told her peers.

Mrs. McKenna was chosen for the honour through a process that began with a nomination from her classmates on the basis of leadership, academic achievement and professional skills.

Ten of her peers were also nominated and the nominees were graded on marks and comments from session moderators. A committee then whittled the 11 nominees down to three finalists. Following interviews with CMA President and CEO David Hipgrave and vice president Janet Treasure, Mrs McKenna was selected for the honour.

Mrs. McKenna graduated from Trent's Business Administration Program in 2001. After eight months in a junior position at Freedom 55 Financial, Mrs. McKenna joined Bell Canada as manager of Revenue Recognition in January 2002.

Mrs. McKenna attributes her success largely to both the CMA designation as well as the interactive learning experience she gained while attending Trent's business program. During her years at Trent she was extensively involved in the Trent Business Students Association and Career Fair.

Jaime is married to David McKee (also a Trent business graduate) and lives in Oshawa with her pug Bentley. She recently became president of Trent's Toronto Alumni chapter.

Ms. McKenna was featured in the October 26, 2005 edition of the Globe and Mail in a special section highlighting CMA Ontario.
