Prestigious Scholarship Recipients Welcomed

Prestigious scholarship recipients attend a welcome receptionPresident Bonnie Patterson welcomed 22 of the University's prestigious scholarship winners to Trent at a reception in Champlain College, September 21.

"This is a great opportunity to meet you face-to-face and it's important that you get to know each other," said Ms. Patterson.

"When you've won this type of scholarship, you're really at the top of your game. Because you are at the top of your game, you will play a leadership role as students. We look to you for that leadership."

Ms. Patterson encouraged the scholars to think and act outside the box. "You have that opportunity at Trent," she said.

Vice-President Academic Susan Apostle-Clark, Registrar Susan Salusbury, Trent International Program Director Dr. Michael Allcott, Assistant Registrar Joyce Sutton and Enrolment Management Assistant Spencer Harrison also attended the event to lend their knowledge and experiences to the scholars.

The students participated in self-reflection exercises, learned the value of having mentors and received advice from upper year students on how to make the most of university life.

The first-year students come from a variety of disciplines. Trent University offers a full and diverse scholarship program designed to foster and reward high academic achievement among its students.

Trent's most prestigious scholarships, the Champlain Scholarships, the Board of Governors' Leadership Scholarships, the Michael Treadwell Scholarship, the Trent International Program Scholarships and the Trent University Special Admissions Scholarships, are renewable scholarships awarded to new students entering the first year of study who have displayed exceptional academic and extra-curricular achievement, and who are judged likely to make a significant contribution to the life of the University.
