Behind the Scenes Tour a Success

The Behind the Scenes Tour at Trent on May 14 was a resounding success as community members had an opportunity to get a glimpse of some of the newest and some of the oldest features of Trent. President Bonnie Patterson welcomed guests and provided an update on University happenings before the tour began. The Trent University Foundation and the Annual Fund hosted the event.

Highlights of the tour:

  • Dr. Brad White provided an informative overview of DNA science in a mini-lecture. Some guests submitted "swab samples" to have their individual DNA profiled for a small fee, and the group visited a DNA lab to see the technical operations of the profiling equipment.
  • Dr. Bernadine Dodge provided information to the guests on the Trent Archives. Some interesting displays were laid out for the guests including early maps of Peterborough, letters from original settlers (Peter Robinson letter) and preserved botanical samples from Catherine Parr Traill's personal collection.
  • Dr. Ed Ng provided an enthusiastic and informative mini-lecture on how human performance in business organizations translates into measurable business performance.
  • Canada Research Chair in Aboriginal Arts and Literatures Professor Marrie Mumford moderated a multi-media presentation on visiting Aboriginal performance groups as well as the vision and societal significance of Trent's program, in the First Peoples House of Learning performance space.
