The Ryle Lectures 2004 - Responsibility and Structural Injustice: March 15 - 18 Trent University's Philosophy Department presents Iris Marion Young, Professor of Political Science, University of Chicago
Prof. Young is an affiliate with the Gender Studies Center and the Human Rights Program at the University of Chicago and a specialist in contemporary political theory, feminist social theory, and normative analysis of public policy. Her books include Justice and the Politics of Difference, Throwing Like a Girl and Other Essays in Feminist Philosophy and Social Theory, Intersecting Voices: Dilemmas of Gender, Political Philosophy, and Policy, and Inclusion and Democracy. Her writings have been translated into several languages, including German, Italian, Spanish, and Swedish. She has lectured widely in North America, Europe, Australia, and South Africa. The Ryle Lecture Series was established by Trent University's Philosophy Department in 1977 in memory of the late Professor Gilbert Ryle of Oxford University. They are made possible by a grant from the Franklin J. Matchette Foundation and by funds from an endowment established by members, alumni, and friends of the department. Each year, the Ryle Lecture Series brings a distinguished philosopher to the University for lectures and informal meetings. Recent lecturers include Drucilla Cornell, Dennis Dutton, Gerry Cohen and Susan Haack.

Trent University's Philosophy Department proudly presents its Ryle Lectures 2004 speaker, Iris Marion Young, Professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago for four lectures March 15 to 18 in the lecture hall at Peter Gzowski College on Argyle Street. Lectures begin at 8 p.m. and all are welcome to attend.
