Ketty was born and raised in Córdoba, Spain. Her areas of expertise include Spanish Peninsular Literature, with a focus on Golden Age; early modern discourse on prostitution as it relates to literature; Cervantes and female picaresque novel.  She is the author of “Prostituidas por el texto: Discurso prostibulario en la picaresca femenina" which can be found at the following link: http://www.cla.purdue.edu/fll/PSRL/authors/Zafra.htm and "Teaching the Role of Prostitution in the Female Picaresque" included in the book Apporaches to Teaching Lazarillo de Tormes and the Picaresque Tradition (2008).  Professor Zafra is also the author of the edition and introduction of a rare picaresque novel coming out in April 2011, entitled Vida y costumbres de la madre Andrea, which also includes an annotated translation by professor Anne Cruz, University of Miami.

Some of her conference papers include: "Discurso picaresco-prostibulario en Vida y costumbres de la madre Andrea" presented at the Asociación Internacional de Hispanistas in París and "The Female Picaresque and Prostitution Laws"presented at the Renaissance Society of America in Miami.  Ketty has also organized the panel "The Other Face of the Empire: Discourses of Alterity in Golden Age Spain"at the Renaissance Society of America. 

Her teaching areas are Spanish Peninsular Literature with a focus on the Early Modern period and Second Language Acquisition, with a special interest in Spanish Cinema as a means of communicating both language and cultural aspects of Spanish.
