Faculty associated with the Materials Science program are primarily members of the Chemistry and Physics departments, which are located in the Chemical Sciences and Physics Buildings respectively.
The Chemical Sciences Building was opened in 2004 and provides modern well-equipped laboratories for faculty members engaged in chemical sciences research. The Physics Building was opened in 1992. In both buildings, laboratory and computational research space is available to meet the needs of a wide range of materials science research projects. The Trent Biomaterials Research Program was opened in 2009 along with the introduction of a full range of new facilities.
For details on specific equipment and techniques employed please visit the research pages of the individual faculty members.
Networked learning
Courses will be taught by both Trent and UOIT faculty via traditional techniques, augmented by the collaborative implementation of lectures and research meetings at a distance using advanced technology made possible by the membership of both institutions in the SHARCNET (Shared Hierarchical Academic Research Computer Network, http://www.sharcnet.ca ) high-performance computing consortium.
