JSTOR

Availability:
Resource Type:
Description:

The JSTOR archive is a searchable database of full-text research journals in a variety of academic disciplines. All articles are full text. Individual journals can be browsed or searched. A search of the entire database can be performed.

See the number of associated journals for each subject covered on the Search screen (click "Browse by subject").

The Trent Library subscribes to the Arts & Sciences I, II, III, IV, V, VI, Arts & Sciences Complement, and Life Sciences (Biological Sciences / Health and General Sciences combined) collections. This includes over 1100 journals. These journals include complete backruns, from the first volume to 3-10 years ago (no current volumes).

Journals in JSTOR have "moving walls" that define the time lag between the most current issue published and the content available in JSTOR. The majority of journals in the archive have moving walls of between 3 and 5 years, but publishers may elect walls anywhere from zero to 10 years.

New in 2013!  JSTOR also hosts a "Current Scholarship Program", providing current collections of journals.  Trent subscribes to many individual titles, as well as the University of Chicago Press package of 41 titles.

JSTOR, a not-for-profit organization, began in 1994 as a pilot project by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to help libraries meet the space and budgetary challenges posed by the growing volume of scholarly research.

Notes:

JSTOR does not need to be searched directly to find articles available within it. When you search another major index (such as Historical Abstracts or Sociological Abstracts) and it identifies a citation to a journal that is available through JSTOR, the Getit_sm_trans service will connect us to the article in JSTOR.

Available through a CRKN agreement (renewed for 2014-17).

Coverage:
Varies by journal. Begins with volume 1 of each journal and often has a "moving wall" that determines which recent volumes are available.
Update Frequency:
Ongoing.
