Artemis Literary Sources

Description: 

Artemis is Gale's search engine for the MLA International Bilbiography (MLA) and Literature Resource Center (LRC) databases. 

  • MLA is an extensive database of journal article citations from over 4,000 journals. 
  • LRC is smaller database of full-text reference books and articles.

Search both databases simultaneously. 

  • Search by person (by or about), name of work, keyword.
  • Limit results by content type, document type, publication title.

  • Term frequency: a diagram of how often your terms appear in works over time.
  • Term clusters: a diagram of where your search terms appear.

MLA International Bibliography indexes books, articles and dissertations published on modern languages, literatures, folklore, and linguistics, providing coverage from 1926 to the present. It includes the MLA Thesaurus and the MLA Directory of Periodicals, which lists detailed information on over 5,500 journals, including over 4,400 indexed in the Bibliography

Literature Resource Center provides up-to-date biographical information, overviews, full-text literary criticism and reviews on more than 130,000 writers in all disciplines, from all time periods and from around the world.

The Artemis interface was introduced in February 2014, eliminating the previous Gale interface.

Note the MLA database does NOT provide the full text of the article, only the citation.  To find a link to the article, first find the article and then look for a permanent link on the page where you find it.

For documents which are full text, click on "Citation Tools".  A box opens, providing a full citation to be used when citing the item (choose from APA or MLA), and a durable URL.

Academic Search Elite

Academic Search Elite provides full text for more than 2,000 journals, including more than 1,500 peer-reviewed titles. In addition to the full text, indexing and abstracts are provided for all 3,484 journals in the collection.

This database offers information in nearly every area of academic study including: computer sciences, engineering, physics, chemistry, language and linguistics, arts & literature, medical sciences, ethnic studies and more. Examples of titles offered in Academic Search Elite include: American Historical Review, American Journal of Political Science, American Libraries, American Sociologist, British Journal of Psychology, British Journal of Sociology, Central European History, Contemporary Literature, Early American Literature, Journal of Social Psychology, Library Journal, Social Forces, Sociological Review, Theological Studies, Women's Studies, etc.

In addition to journal coverage, Academic Search Elite provides full text information from a variety of source-types such as scholarly monographs. The majority of full text titles are available in native (searchable) PDF, or scanned-in-color. Full text information in this database dates as far back as 1985. (from the website)

This is a database that is general and covers almost any topic. Some full text is included and a link to getit! Trent links to full text available elsewhere.
