As our subscription allows for 2 shared seats between a number of universities, there may be times when you are blocked from accessing SciFinder. We are interested to know the frequency of blocks and would appreciate an e-mail from you should you get blocked. Please e-mail Ellen Olsen-Lynch at ellenolsenlynclynch@trentu.ca

In order to prevent users from being blocked there is a session timeout of 15 minutes (ie. if your session has been inactive for 15 minutes then it will be terminated automatically).

Scholars Portal Journals

Availability:
Resource Type:
Description:

This group of e-journals covers scholarly information on all subjects, with over 30 million articles from over 10,000 full-text journals.  The overwhelming majority of e-journals to which Trent subscribes are available here.  The journals can be searched or browsed. The updated interface released in January 2014 improves search results and accessibility on a variety of screen sizes.

The content in Scholars Portal is hand-selected by subject specialists at the 21 university libraries that make up the Ontario Council of University Libraries. The content you will find in Scholars Portal comprises the most complete multi-disciplinary database of peer reviewed academic literature available anywhere.

  • With a single-search, find material from the important journals in your field.
  • Track new issues in these journals using RSS feeds.
  •  For each article, see a list of citing articles, related articles, and related books.

Using a single interface you can search or browse to find results in full text e-journals.

Notes:
  • Select "Show only content I can access" to limit results to those available at Trent.
  • Sort results by "Relevance" or "Most Recent".
  • See the top-cited journals in a discipline under "Browse".
  • Add citations to a personal list for exporting into RefWorks, quick bibliography, or emailing.

The Scholars Portal project is funded by the Ontario Information Infrastructure (part of the Ontario Council of University Libraries), and it is hosted at the University of Toronto. It is available at all Ontario Universities.

Stable URL:

A stable url (or persistent link) is a link that connects a user to a particular item in a database or on the web.

You have options in the Scholars Portal Journals interface. Below the Abstract of each item find the information you need. Look for this:

Screen capture of the doi permalink

1. There is a Permalink at the bottom of each record which is a stable url for that article.

If it doesn't already include the proxy information, add the proxy prefix to the beginning:

Example: http://web2.trentu.ca:2048/login?url=http://resolver.scholarsportal.info/resolve/10811680/v16i0001/49_trotcvpncoc2

2. Many journals in Scholars Portal Journals also use the DOI system to create a stable link.

To link to a particular article via DOI, look for the line that provides a doi and use it create a link.

Example:
DOI: 10.1080/10811680.2011.536498
Link: http://web2.trentu.ca:2048/login?url=http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/10811680.2011.536498
